To drive a car in the Arab Emirates, expats need an international and national driver’s license. That is, International Driving Permit, IDP is valid, but only for the first time, then you will have to go through the steps of obtaining a national driver’s license.
Driving permits can be issued after passing the following stages:
- Register for training courses
- Submit a stamped medical certificate
- Take a training course, including theoretical and practical parts.
- Pass theory and practical exams
- Obtain a driver’s license
Residents (expats) are issued a driver’s license for 2 years and then renewed for another 5 years. After that, the procedure is repeated.
Driving school training is only possible for people with a resident visa. Tourist visas are not suitable for obtaining a driver’s license.
